- Effortless: Let the bread machine knead and rise the dough.
- Soft & Fluffy: These rolls are light, pillowy, and perfect for any meal.
- Versatile: Serve them with soups, or just with some butter or jam.
Ingredients You’ll Need
Making big soft fluffy dinner rolls in a bread machine is easier than you think. You will only need these simple ingredients below, and let’s get baking!

- ¾ cup (175ml) lukewarm water
- 1 large egg (lightly beaten)
- 1 ½ tbsp (10g) powdered milk
- 3 tbsp (38g) sugar
- 1 ½ tsp (7g) kosher salt
- ½ tsp (2g) vanilla extract
- 2 ¾ cups (380g) all-purpose flour
- 1 ½ tsp (5g) bread machine yeast
- 3 tbsp (42g) room-temperature butter (cut into cubes)
I like using bread machine yeast for this because you just add it in, and it gets to work right away. No mixing, no waiting, and the dough rises exactly like it should. (read more here)
How to Make the Best Bread Machine Dinner Rolls
These bread machine dinner rolls are buttery, soft, and incredibly easy to make. Just follow these simple steps below, and you’ll have warm, golden rolls ready to serve!

Step 1: Add Ingredients to the Bread Machine
Pour the lukewarm water into the bread pan, then crack in the egg and give it a quick stir with a fork. Add the powdered milk, sugar, kosher salt, and vanilla extract—this combo adds flavor and richness to your dough.
Step 2: Add Flour and Yeast
Spoon the all-purpose flour into the pan, spreading it evenly. Make a small well in the center and add the bread machine yeast—this helps the yeast activate at the right time for the best rise.

Step 3: Add Butter and Start the Dough Cycle
Cut the butter into small cubes and scatter them around the edges of the flour. Place the bread pan in the machine, select the Dough setting, and let it mix, knead, and rise until the dough is smooth and elastic.
Tip: Let the bread machine do its job! Resist the urge to lift the lid too often during the kneading and rising process—this can affect how well the dough develops.
Step 4: Shape the Rolls
Take the dough out of the bread pan and place it on a clean surface. Shape it into a ball, then cut it into nine equal pieces and roll each one into a smooth, round ball.

Step 5: Arrange and Let the Dough Rise
Arrange the dough balls close together in a square baking pan. Brush the tops with melted butter, cover with a kitchen towel, and let them rise for about 60 to 75 minutes or until they double in size.

Step 6: Bake Until Golden Brown
Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Bake the rolls for 13–15 minutes or until golden brown and your kitchen smells absolutely amazing, like a bakery 🙂
Step 7: Serve Warm and Enjoy
Take the rolls out of the oven and brush them with a little more melted butter for extra flavor. Let them cool slightly before serving. These rolls are soft, buttery, and perfect for any meal!

Top Tip: Infuse with Garlic or Herbs. Melt some butter with minced garlic and brush it over the rolls after baking for a delicious garlic butter finish. You can also mix dried herbs like rosemary or thyme into the dough.
