Why I Like This Air Fryer Egg on Toast Recipe

This air fryer egg on toast is just a good, simple breakfast. The air fryer heats from all sides, so the bread gets crispy while the egg cooks. It works well for one or two pieces without having to turn on the oven. That’s it – it’s just a basic recipe that turns out well.
Ingredients You’ll Need
Here’s everything you need to make two servings of air fryer egg on toast:

- 2 slices of bread (this white bread works great)
- 2 eggs (1 per slice of bread)
- Butter (room temperature)
- Salt
- Black pepper
- Optional: chili powder, paprika, or other seasonings you like
Top Tip: Put a small sheet of parchment paper in the bottom of your air fryer basket to catch any egg that might drip over. Makes cleanup much faster.

Step-by-Step Instructions
Here’s how to make this egg toast in your air fryer.

Preparing the Bread
Let’s get the bread ready first.
Step 1: Spread butter on both sides of your bread slice. I’m using regular white bread in this video, but you can use any bread you have at home. Whole wheat, sourdough, or even French bread all work fine. Just butter both sides really well. This makes the outside get crispy and golden brown.

Step 2: Use a small cup or bowl to gently press down in the middle of the bread to create a small dip. This makes a spot for your egg to sit in without running off. If the dip isn’t deep enough, press it down a bit more with the back of a spoon.

Adding the Egg
Now let’s get that egg on the bread.
Step 3: Next, place the bread slice in the air fryer basket before cracking one egg on it. My air fryer is a bit small, so I need to cook them one by one, but luckily, it doesn’t take long, so I can still make breakfast for everyone without waiting too long.
Putting the bread in first makes it easier since it would be hard to put it in the basket if the runny egg is on top of the bread already. Be careful not to break the yolk as you crack the egg on the bread.

Step 4: Sprinkle a little salt and pepper on top of the egg. Just a pinch of each is enough. I like to add a dash of chili powder for color and mild flavor, but you can use whatever seasonings you enjoy with eggs. Garlic powder, Italian herbs, or even a bit of cheese would work well too. The air fryer will help melt any cheese you add on top.
Top Tip: Crack your egg into a small bowl first, then carefully pour it onto the bread. This prevents accidentally breaking the yolk on the edge of the bread and gives you more control.
Cooking in the Air Fryer
Now for the cooking part.
Step 5: Now, carefully place the basket in the preheated air fryer. Cook for 7 minutes at 385°F or 196°C for a runny yolk. If you prefer a firm yolk, cook for 9 minutes instead. You’ll get perfectly crispy bread with your egg cooked exactly how you like it.

Note: Don’t open the air fryer too early to check on the egg. Opening it lets out all the hot air and can make the egg cook unevenly.
Serving Suggestions
Time to eat!

Step 6: And voila, your air fryer egg on toast is ready! It has crispy edges, buttery flavor, and a perfect egg in the middle. I make this easy air fryer breakfast a lot because it’s quick and tastes really good. Try eating it while it’s still hot – that’s when it’s best.
This air fryer egg on toast is great on its own, but you can also serve it with:

- Fresh tomatoes
- A sprinkle of fresh herbs (chives or parsley work well)
- Hot sauce or ketchup, if you like some extra flavor
- Mashed avocado for a more filling breakfast

Why Air Fryer Eggs Work So Well
I wasn’t sure about cooking eggs in the air fryer at first. I thought they might dry out or the bread would burn before the egg was done. But I was wrong – the bread gets super crispy while the egg cooks just right.
The air fryer heats everything evenly. Plus, I don’t have to flip anything, which means no broken yolks. It’s also cleaner than cooking on the stove – no oil splatter to clean up afterward.
Variations to Try

I’ve tried this recipe a bunch of different ways. Here are some ideas:
Different Breads

Try these bread options:
- Oat bread for a nuttier flavor
- Sourdough for a slight tang
- Texas toast for a thicker, heartier base
- English muffins (though you’ll need to adjust the depression differently)
Flavor Additions
Mix it up with these ideas:

- Add a slice of cheese on top during the last minute of cooking
- Sprinkle with everything bagel seasoning
- Add a thin slice of ham or poached chicken under the egg
- Sprinkle fresh herbs like chives or parsley after cooking
Top Tip: For an extra flavor boost, mix herbs or garlic powder into your butter before spreading it on the bread. This infuses flavor into every bite.
Storage and Reheating
This tastes best fresh out of the air fryer, but sometimes you might need to save leftovers.
If you have leftovers, let them cool completely, then store them in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 1 day. To reheat, place in the air fryer at 350°F for about 2-3 minutes until heated through.

I don’t usually make these ahead because they’re so quick to prepare fresh, but if you’re really short on morning time, you can prep the buttered bread with the depression and keep it covered in the fridge overnight.
