Why You’ll Love This Air Fryer Poached Egg on Toast

This is a handy breakfast when you feel like having poached eggs but do not want to use the stovetop.
The egg cooks in a small ramekin while the bread toasts beside it. You can also take the toast out first if it is ready before the egg, which helps keep it golden and crisp.
You can leave the yolk soft and runny or cook it a little longer if you prefer it more set.
Texture and Flavor
The bread comes out golden and crisp, especially when you spread mayonnaise over both sides before air frying.
The egg white should be fully cooked but still tender, with a soft yolk in the middle. Add salt, black pepper, and a little paprika if you like… simple, warm, and so satisfying.
Poached Egg on Toast Ingredients

Use these amounts for each egg and slice of toast:
- 1 large egg
- 1 slice of bread
- 1 tablespoon of mayonnaise
- Hot water, enough to cover the egg
- A small amount of oil, for greasing the ramekin
- Salt, to taste
- Black pepper, to taste
- Paprika, to taste, optional
Ingredient Notes

Bread
Use any sliced bread you enjoy.
Thicker bread usually holds the egg better, while thinner bread may toast more quickly. Just keep an eye on it near the end.
Mayonnaise
I like using mayonnaise because it spreads easily and helps the bread turn golden and crisp.
Softened butter works too, so use whichever one you prefer.
Eggs
Large eggs fit well in most small ramekins.
You can cook several eggs at once, but each egg should go into its own ramekin so it cooks evenly and is easy to serve.
Equipment
- Air fryer
- Small oven/air fryer safe ramekin for each egg
- Spoon or butter knife
- Tongs
- Slotted spoon or regular spoon
How to Make Poached Eggs in Air Fryer

Step 1: Prepare the ramekin
Take a small oven safe ramekin and add a small amount of oil so the egg will not stick.
Spread the oil around the inside, then add enough hot water to cover the egg once it is cracked in.
Note: Do not fill the ramekin right to the top. Leave enough room to move it without spilling the hot water.
Step 2: Add the egg

Crack the egg into the hot water, taking care not to break the yolk.
The white may spread a little in the water, and that is completely normal.
Did You Know: Fresher eggs usually have thicker whites, so they often hold their shape better when poached.
Step 3: Prepare the toast
Take the slice of bread and spread 1 tablespoon of mayonnaise over both sides.
I like using mayonnaise because it gives the bread a lovely golden finish and it is easy to spread. You can use softened butter instead if you prefer.
Step 4: Add everything to the air fryer

Preheat the air fryer to 350°F (175°C).
Place the toast and the ramekin into the air fryer basket.
When cooking more eggs, use a separate ramekin for each one and only add as many as your basket can hold safely.
Step 5: Air fry
Air fry at 350°F (175°C) for 8 to 9 minutes.
Flip the toast after about 5 minutes so the other side can brown. Start checking the toast and egg at around 8 minutes.

The toast should look golden and feel crisp. The egg white should be fully set, while the yolk can stay soft or cook a little firmer, depending on what you like.
I usually cook mine for around 8 minutes and 30 seconds, but every air fryer cooks a little differently.
Top Tip: Check the toast and egg separately. Take the toast out when it is golden, then leave the egg in a little longer if the white is not fully set or you prefer a firmer yolk.
Step 6: Serve

Carefully remove the ramekin because it will be hot.
Lift the egg out of the water and place it on the toast. Add salt and black pepper, then sprinkle over a little paprika if you like.
Serve it right away while the toast is still crisp and the egg is warm.
How Long to Cook It In The Air Fryer
Start checking the egg at around 8 minutes for a softer yolk.
Cook it closer to 9 minutes if you prefer the yolk more set. You may need another minute if your air fryer cooks more slowly.
The egg white should look fully cooked with no clear or wet patches left.

Cooking More Than One Egg
You can cook several poached eggs in the air fryer at once if you have enough space.
Place each egg in its own ramekin and arrange them in the basket without stacking anything.
A fuller basket may need a little extra cooking time, so check the eggs before taking them out.
Common Problems

The Egg White Is Still Wet
Cook the egg for another minute, then check it again.
Avoid adding several minutes at once because the yolk can firm up quickly near the end.
The Toast Is Ready First
Take it out and let the egg continue cooking.
This is normal, especially when using thin bread or when you prefer a firmer egg.
The Egg Sticks
Make sure you grease the ramekin before adding the hot water.
You can also loosen the cooked egg gently with a spoon before lifting it out.
The Yolk Is Too Firm
Check the egg a little earlier next time.
Even another 30 to 60 seconds can make a big difference to the yolk.
What to Serve With It

This air fryer poached egg on toast is good with just salt and black pepper.
You can also serve it with sliced tomatoes, avocado, air fryer mushrooms, fresh fruit, or a little hot sauce.
Let’s be honest… crisp toast, a soft egg, and plenty of black pepper are already a pretty good breakfast.
