Step-by-Step Guide to Making This Nutella-Stuffed Skillet Cookie

Now it’s time to bake! This Nutella cookie pie recipe comes together easily with just a few steps. Follow along, and you’ll have a warm, irresistible treat in no time!

Step 1: Prepare the Nutella layer – Scoop ¾ cup warmed-up Nutella into an 8-inch round tray lined with plastic wrap. Spread it evenly and freeze for about 30 minutes.

Top Tip: Freeze the Nutella first so it holds its shape while baking. This ensures a perfectly gooey center instead of a runny mess!

Step 2: Make the cookie dough – In a large bowl, mix together ½ cup softened butter, ¼ cup granulated sugar, ¼ cup brown sugar, and 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract. Stir until smooth.

Step 3: Add the egg – Mix in one egg, stirring until well combined.

Step 4: Combine dry ingredients – Gradually add 1⅓ cups all-purpose flour, ½ teaspoon of baking soda, and a pinch of salt. Stir until fully incorporated.

Step 5: Add chocolate chips – Fold in ⅓ cup (55g) of chocolate chips, but don’t overmix

Step 6: Assemble the cookie – Grease an 8-inch skillet with butter. Press half of the dough into the bottom and up the sides of the skillet.

Step 7: Stuff with Nutella – Place the frozen Nutella in the center, pressing it down slightly. Cover with the remaining cookie dough, making sure to seal the edges.

Top Tip: When spreading the bottom layer of dough, press it slightly up the sides of the skillet. This helps seal in the Nutella and prevents leaks while baking.

Step 8: Bake – Preheat the oven to 350°F (180°C) and bake for 20 minutes or until golden brown.

Top Tip: Use a cast-iron skillet for the best results! It distributes heat evenly, giving your Nutella cookie pie recipe perfectly crispy edges while keeping the center soft and gooey.

Step 9: Cool before serving – Let the cookie sit for at least 10 minutes before slicing.

  • Bake the giant cookie in a preheated oven at 180°C or 350°F for about 20 minutes.

Notes

  • Don’t skip freezing the Nutella – Freezing the Nutella before baking ensures it stays thick and gooey inside your Nutella stuffed cookie, rather than melting completely into the dough.
  • Make it festive – Turn this into the ultimate Giant Christmas Cookie by topping it with crushed candy canes, holiday sprinkles, or a drizzle of white chocolate for a fun holiday twist!
  • Use high-quality chocolate chips – The better the chocolate, the better the cookie! Opt for semi-sweet or dark chocolate chips to balance the sweetness of the Nutella.
  • You want a crispier edge: Bake in a cast iron skillet for better heat retention and a golden, crispy crust.
  • You are short on time: Make the dough a day in advance and freeze the Nutella layer ahead of time. When ready, just assemble and bake.

How to Store This Giant Skillet Cookie

At Room Temperature: If you plan to eat it within 2–3 days, keep the cookie covered with plastic wrap or in an airtight container at room temperature. This helps maintain its soft texture.

In the Refrigerator: For longer storage, place the cookie in an airtight container and refrigerate for up to 5 days. Let it sit at room temperature for about 15 minutes before serving to soften.

In the Freezer: To freeze, wrap the cookie (whole or in slices) tightly in plastic wrap, then place it in a freezer-safe bag or container. It will stay fresh for up to 2 months. When ready to eat, thaw at room temperature or warm it in the oven at 150°C (300°F) for 5–10 minutes for that fresh-baked taste.
